Dr. Lucky Tran re-posted a video that has been looping over and over in my head. In it the police violate protesters by removing their masks one by one. It’s the last protester that gets to me. They appear the most reflective of me when someone is taking away something that I need. A mask. In a pandemic. Protesting Genocide. That slight writhe. The upset. The anticipation of what is to come is now immensely worse.
We don’t know if they are disabled or not, however, their risk of worse outcomes increases dramatically with this action by the arm of the State. As reports from Columbia students that NYPD were also violating protesters by removing their hijabs, this is an entity that acts with impunity. It cannot be reformed. It must be abolished.
As the man with the most power to stop all of this, President Biden, he had the audacity to deflect and Gaslight us with words like “peaceful” and “trespassing”. When the violence has been brought down upon them by Administration. By State entities firing rubber bullets at their heads with money he decided should go to police when he wanted to declare the pandemic over. 5 Students at UCLA sustained head injuries at last report from one of the student groups that was on the ground.

With the United States being the backer of the Occupation, and Occupation controlling /limiting all access to vaccines/testing/medical equipment, there was a health crises due to the virus. Right now, most of the health infrastructure has been destroyed, with very little needed supplies coming in. The level of need right now is just focused on staying afloat, with births, traumatic injury (from bombs, snipers, etc) and malnutrition, being the health response and challenges highlighted on the May 1st 2024 OCHA report.
Whether you want to admit it or not your actions have global implications, and with the feeling the surveillance state is just starting to cracking it’s knuckles, we need masked solidarity now more than ever. If you say “Fuck the police”, say it masked. Maybe then, we can all be America’s nightmare.
